Born and raised in Syria, Raghad graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, where she then worked as a teaching assistant for six years. During her career, Raghad played leading roles in various plays and TV drama series in Syria and across the Middle East. Before she fled Syria to Lebanon, she was a member of an interactive theater group that toured Syrian towns and villages to engage with residents about social issues. Two years ago, Raghad had to relocate again; this time she moved to the Washington, D.C. area where she has been rebuilding her acting career. When she is not on stage, Raghad is probably eating lots of food at home or jogging around Alexandria.

Libby is an actor, teaching artist, producer, and cat whisperer originally from Reno, Nevada. She has spent the last 8 of 9 years calling Seattle, WA her home, though she dipped out of the city for a year to do a nation-wide tour with the Olney Theatre Center’s National Players; she is thrilled to be back in the area. Before Seattle, Libby was a company member at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for two seasons. When Libby isn’t busy theatre-izing she loves hiking, taking walks, hunkering down for board games, and pinball! And if you ever need to hypnotize a chicken, Libby’s your gal because she has two different techniques.

Josh has spent most of life living all over the state of Maryland, though his childhood was spent in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where his father served in the Navy. A player of “Pipes and Whistles” he’s always looking for a new wind instrument to learn and add to his collection. His favorite Shakespeare play and role is Hamlet and understandably one of his favorite scenes begins with “Come, the recorders!” If he didn’t need to wear sweat pants to class everyday for movement you can be sure he’d don one of his Scottish kilts to school.

Kathryn is originally from New Jersey and graduated from Salve Regina University. Just arrived in DC, she now lives with her best friend and two kitties, Simba and Nala. In her free time Kathryn likes to read, drink tea, and watch reality TV shows. A favorite role of hers was Bananas in ‘The House of Blue Leaves’ because she got to wear a robe and slippers on stage for the whole show.

Originally from DeKalb, Illinois, Christie is a Chicago-based actor. She has trained with the School at Steppenwolf and the Moscow Art Theatre School. Christie was an emerging professional resident at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, and spent a summer as a member of the Next Stage Ensemble with the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. She is also a teaching artist, and has worked as a choreographer with Far Corners Music Theatre in Costa Rica. Christie is also an improv performer, singer, board game enthusiast, and book lover. Her favorite Shakespeare play changes every so often, but her current choice is “King Lear.”

Shayna is overjoyed to return to her love of performing having focused the last six years teaching yoga at studios, yoga festivals, and as a lead trainer with Breathe For Change, a national yoga certification program that utilizes yoga as a vehicle for social change. In addition to yoga, Shayna is a certified instructor of Lucid Body, a psychosomatic movement process for actors. Originally from Columbia, Maryland, Shayna is happy to make DC her home after 17 years of NYC living. When not acting, find Shayna indulging her inner-foodie, or adventuring around the globe.

Based out of New York, Daniel was stoked to slide down the east coast for the year with the ACA and this remarkable group of artists. Something of a wand'ring minstrel, he has spent the past decade-and-a-half bouncing around regional theaters from Florida to Alaska and pretty much everywhere in between. (Still missing Hawaii, but it's at the top of the list!) When not in a rehearsal room or on stage, he can typically be found scampering about nearby (or not-so-nearby, as the case may be) mountain trails; otherwise, he's probably at the movies or Taco Bell.

Claire is only half joking when she describes her early years as ‘mostly feral’. Originally from upstate New York, she’s called Pennsylvania home for the last couple of decades. She’s a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and can be caught acting, teaching, and working in costume shops. She tried being a barista and once served a woman “the worst cappuccino she’d ever put in her mouth”. Other favorite activities include making soup, watching nature documentaries, and parallel parking (at which she is inexplicably excellent).

HAMLET: POLONIUS

J. Tyler Jones is originally from Atlanta, but spent most of the last decade in Southern California working as an actor, teacher, and fight director. As such, he is terrified of the winter and will appreciate your thoughts and prayers if and when the temperature drops below 55 degrees. Tyler is a proud member of the Society of American Fight Directors, with whom he is working towards achieving his status as a Certified Teacher of stage combat. His favorite play is Henry IV, Part One but if you want him to start talking and never shut up, bring up Romeo and Juliet. He named the dog Indiana.

Michael is a Bay Area Native, and comes to DC by way of Chicago, New York and Minneapolis. His first Shakespeare show was a little production that, sadly, didn't pick up steam called "King Lear: The Musical Comedy". In addition to Shakespeare, Michael is a fan of podcasts, hot tubs, Batman, and drag queens. His favorite Shakespeare play is Richard II, but also Romeo and Juliet because the balcony scene makes him cry.

Jule was born in Dallas, TX but had quite the nomadic childhood, moving every few years. She relocated to DC from LA with her husband, where she spent the last few years acting, producing and teaching. Some of her favorite hobbies include playing music, traveling, reading and binge-watching period dramas. Her favorite Shakespeare play is Henry V or As You Like It, depending on the day.

Originally from Connecticut, Sam spent several years developing his chops at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts after graduating from Skidmore College. He has spent the last seven years living and working as an actor in Brooklyn helping to create several companies dedicated to producing innovative and dynamic Shakespearean productions. His favorite play is Henry IV. When not working in theatre you can find Sam sipping an old-fashioned at the closest bar, or reading David Sedaris while his cat Smokey Ray lounges on his chest.

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Morgan has also lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, London, and, for a brief and dazzling moment, Tokyo. Morgan's go-to fun-fact is: "I have ridden in a hot air balloon" (she really has). Her favorite Shakespeare play to date is Henry IV Part 1, and her newest favorite words are "syzygy" and "omphalos."

Samuel Richie grew up in Santa Cruz, CA, and has spent much of his adult life acting in San Francisco, where he received his BA in Theatre. He spent the last two years working with a playwright to create a new play about the lives of the villagers in Lesvos, Greece, and their experiences aiding a ½ million Syrian refugees. His favorite Shakespeare play is Henry V, and he loves a grisly John Webster play. He loves Natural History, and Astronomy, and has a habit of pulling a quarter out of his pocket and using it to show people how big the universe is.

Born and raised in sunny South Florida, Derrick holds a BFA from NYU and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His favorite role to date is Puck (whom he misses dearly). Before moving to D.C. he was volunteering for a suicide prevention call center in NYC. He dreams of one day gender-bending Lady Macbeth or Ophelia, but would be just as happy playing Mercutio. A poet at heart, he just finished writing a modern adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull. Fun Fact: He’s terrified of heights, but has jumped out of a plane and hiked to the top of the Inca Trail at Machu Picchu.

Petrea Whittier grew up in Nebraska, where she played a fairy in her first Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, at the age of 12. She continued to memorize lines in iambic pentameter all through college, and graduated with a double major in Theatre and English in 2014. She has been working professionally on and off ever since, and had the pleasure of working with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company during their 2015/2016 season. When not on stage or rehearsing, she enjoys sipping coffee, reading fantasy books, and playing tabletop RPGs.

Dan hails from Seattle in the peaceful Pacific Northwest, and has lived in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. When he does go into the outside world, he enjoys adventuring around DC by bike and finding the best spots to eat or to relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. His favorite Shakespeare play is King Lear. He believes faithfully in the ability of the arts to change our world for the better, and he dedicates his artistic endeavors to his grandfather, who was a great lover of the arts and one of the happiest, wisest firecrackers you could ever hope to meet.

Sarah Corbyn Woolf is a multi-purpose theater maker from Western Massachusetts. She is co-founding artistic director emeritus of The Woolgatherers Theater Group in NYC and spent the last three years performing and producing across Manhattan and Brooklyn. She is driven by a desire to shift the industry towards stronger and safer environments in which to create bold, clear, and visceral work. CLASSICAL TRAINING REIMAGINED

A rigorous and immersive one-year MFA program that includes acting, voice, rhetoric, text, movement, mask, the Alexander Technique, stage combat, clown, as well as dramatic literature, script analysis, and theatre history, the ACA offers a unique training structure that serves as an incubator for fully developed classical actors and theatre makers. The program is a joint venture with the George Washington University, and upon completion candidates receive a terminal degree - a Master of Fine Arts. Classes in Acting, Text & Rhetoric, Voice, Speech, Mask, Movement, and Stage Combat make up the core of the curriculum. Many of the faculty members for the program are award-winning actors and artists associated with STC.

PHYSICALLY DISTANCED. THEATRICALLY VIBRANT

MEET DIRECTORS AND CREW

Theatre asks its audiences to imagine everything. Sure, we build sets to indicate location, costumes to delineate character – but audiences still do most of the imaginative work: envisioning different locales, suspending disbelief when one actor plays more than one character.

Radio drama engages us even more by asking us to imagine everything, with only sounds to stimulate our vision of the story. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, we at the ACA knew we needed to pivot to something that was just as exciting as our live, in=person performances. We took our cue from audio drama from the golden days of radio, when Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre performed adaptations of their live productions for a wider radio-listening audience. If you listen to them today, they sound old-fashioned for about thirty seconds, after which you can't help but be drawn in to the story. And story is what theatre is all about.

We're thrilled to share the work of our 2020 class with you in this unusual and exciting way. We've gone back to our pure storytelling roots. Sit back, and listen.
